Animal class: Reptiles- (Their bodies are covered in bony plates or scales, they breathe air with lungs, are cold-blooded (their bodies cannot hold heat and must warm themselves by their surrounding like the sun), have vertebrae (spine or backbone), most have 4 legs, they lay eggs (Some species like the Viper (snake) will keep their eggs in their bodies unti l the egg hatches. Then the baby is born. A few rare species have a live birth like the Three-toed skink), and their sizes range from the Brookesia nana (a chameleon) at .55 in (1.4 cm) to the Saltwater crocodile at 20 ft (6 m)) (Example: Lizards, turtles, snakes, and alligators. There are about 9,000 diff erent species.)
- Diet: Carnivore (They only eat meat): Worms, spiders, small rodents, and bugs
- Lifespan: About 2-9 years
- Predators: Snakes, owls, eagles, and rats
- Size: About 4-12 in (10-30 cm)
- Species: There are about ten diff erent species of Leaf tail geckos, but there are around 1,500 diff erent species of geckos
- Speed : About 30 mph (48 kph)

- Weight: 0.35-1 oz (10 g-30 g)
Where do they live?: The gecko lives in Madagascar and some smaller surrounding islands
- Since their tails look like leaves, they can camoufl age into trees, bushes, and plants.
- These geckos do not have eyelids, so they use their tongues to keep their eyes wet and clean.
- If they lose their tails, they will regenerate (regrow) a new one. And if a gecko is trying to scare away a predator, it can actually “drop” its tail and try to escape.
- They have extraordinary feet that let them climb verti cally up smooth surfaces like glass.
- They are nocturnal but lie in the warm sun during the day.
